The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) in cooperation with DOST-Science Education Institute the will spearhead the first ever search for the Sudoku Master of the Philippines in the First Philippine Sudoku Championship to be held in Manila this coming December 2006. Sudoku is a number puzzle that has been so quickly sweeping the world by storm. Its beauty is two-fold: an enthusiast does not need to know any specific language or learned information to solve it; and there is always, if the puzzle has been set correctly, one and only one solution, soluble to reasoning and elimination, with no need for guesswork.

The MTG will be conducting a simultaneous elimination round in the different MTG training centers across the country on November 18, 2006. The top 3 winners in the elimination round will be awarded medals and will automatically represent as National Finalists to vie for the major awards. The grand champion shall be awarded the Sudoku Master of the Philippines and a cash prize of Php 50,000. While cash prizes of Php 30,000 and Php. 20,000 respectively await the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

Likewise, the winners in the 1st Philippine Sudoku championship will have the chance to represent the Philippines in the forthcoming 2nd World SUDOKU Championship which will take place on the last week of March 28 to April 1, 2007 in Prague, Czech Republic and the 1st Asian-Pacific Sudoku Championship will be held in Singapore on June 2007.
