MTG OPENS INVITATION FOR THE 2007 AMC FOR THE WESPAC AWARDS

REGISTRATION is ON for interested participants for the Australia Mathematics Competition (AMC) 2007 for the Westpac Awards. The contest will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in different MTG training Centers across the country.

The number of entrants in recent years has reached to more than 500,000 and it has become the largest single event on the international mathematics correspondence contest, allowing students to attempt the same tasks, on the same day in about 40 countries worldwide.

Aims
The aims of the Competition are three-fold:
1. To highlight the importance of mathematics as a curriculum subject
2. To give students an opportunity to discover talent in mathematics
3. To provide resources for the classroom and general discussion

Scope of the AMC
There is a Middle Primary Paper (Grades 3 and 4), Upper Primary Paper (Grades 5 and 6), a Junior Paper (1st and 2nd Years HS Levels), an Intermediate Paper (3rd and 4th Year HS Levels) and a Senior Paper (1st and 2nd Year College Levels).

AMC Scoring
Students are asked to solve thirty 30 problems in all. Problems 1 to 25 are of multiple choice type of test. While the last 5 challenging questions at the end of the paper in which the students are required to answer an integer between 0 and 999, a number which students can enter on the mark sense sheets for optical reading. Effective this year Questions 26 to 30 will be worth 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 points respectively, reflecting their greater Challenge. The effect of this change, which increases the maximum possible score from 120 to 135, will be to spread the scores of the potential medalists, and will mainly be noticed by such students.

Registration Information
1. There is no maximum entry from a school. Fill up the Registration Form. The format
of Entry Form is found below.

2. Upon payment of the registration fee at the designated bank, immediately text the following data to Mr. Roberto J. Degolacion at his mobile number 09173246302 for verification purposes with the MTG Center Coordinator.

3. Please write the name and grade/year level of the participant for incoming SY 2007-2008 on the deposit slip. Endorse the original deposit slip to the Mathematics Coordinator in your school and in return the math coordinator will then endorse the said deposit slip to the nearest MTG Center Coordinator.

4. The Registration fee for EACH PARTICIPANT is based on the dates of payment.

Payment made on March 16 to May 15, 2007 ………… US$10.00
Payment made on May 16 to June 30, 2007 ………… US$12.00

5. Payment should be in U.S. Dollars and be made payable to the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG). Deposit your registration fee at the Equitable PCI Bank, Rizal St., Zamboanga City branch with MTG Dollar Account no. 5185-002685.

6. Interested participants must seek the endorsement from their school since MTG will not entertain individual application. In this case only the entrants in the summary entry form prepared by the school mathematics coordinator/ teacher shall be considered as official school participants. Upon receipt of the summary entry form by the MTG, the MTG will send the Official Registration Form to the concerned school for them to fill-up containing the names, age and grade/year level of the participants.
