MTG MATH WIZARDS WIN 2 SILVER MEDALS & 2 BRONZE MEDALS IN HONGKONG STINT

The Philippine Teams under the leadership of the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippine once again soar high and reaped two Silver Medals, two bronze Medals and two Merit Awards in the recent 8th Po Leung Kuk Primary World Mathematics Contest held in HongKong, China on July 16-20,2004.

Two members of our Philippine delegations John Bernard Ong, a student of Grace Christian High School and Paul Julian Hao of Chiang Kai Shek College bagged the SILVER MEDALS in the Individual Contest, while Stephanie Oliveros of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School now enrolled at Philippine Science High School and Carlo Francisco Adajar of PAREF Southridge School for Boys brought home the BRONZE MEDALS.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Teams also received two MERIT AWARDS in the Team Event Contest. The first team is composed of Angeline Baniqued of St. Paul College of Pasig, Jillian Kristel Sy of St. Stephen’s High School, Ezra Joy Templonuevo of Jesus is Lord College Foundation, and Gillian Uy of Grace Christian High School now enrolled at Philippine Science High School, the second team is composed of Jose Enrico Leceta of De la Salle Zobel School, John Bernard Ong of Grace Christian High School, Tobit Narciso of St. Jude High School now enrolled at Philippine Science High School and Vance Mikhail Uy of St. Jude High School are recipient of the said award, the third team is composed of Carlo Francisco Adajar, Stephanie Oliveros, Paul Julian Hao and Marquis Alexandre Tan of Xavier School and the last team is composed of Aileen Giselle Chua of Grace Christian High School, Trixia Marie Ebol of Dadiangas West Elementary School, Dann Julius Tan of Chiang Kai Shek College and Kevin Temew of Davao Christian High School .

Thirty-six (36) teams around the globe participated in this prestigious international mathematics competition such as Singapore, Malaysia, HongKong, Macau, Taiwan, seven provinces in China, Japan, India, Australia, Thailand, and the Philippines and non-Asian countries like the Cyprus, Bulgaria and the USA.

The delegates are headed by Team Leaders namely Mrs. Rechilda Villame, Mr. Anthony Ang, Ms. Corazon Sapo and Mr. Roberto Degolacion while the Deputy Team Leaders are Mrs. Sylvia Ortiz, Mr. Jose Caberte, Mr. Isidro Aguilar and Ms. Esther Jane Uy. The success of the competition redounds to the leadership and dedicated MTG president Dr. Simon L. Chua.

The Kids who participated in the MTG program are trained by renowned Math teachers all over the country. During the one month Summer Olympiad Training Program, they were handled by former MTG trainees Micheal Chong, Augustine John Go, Carlo Brian Angelo Nerecena, Diana Joyce Tee, Nikki Uy and the head of the MTG family Dr. Simon L. Chua.

Let us be proud of our country because our MTG young mathematicians can be at par with other top calibers wizards in other countries
