This makes Dr. Simon L. Chua the first Filipino to receive this esteemed honor. This prestigious international award was established to recognize contributions of mathematicians around the world who have played a significant role over a number of years in the development of mathematical challenges at the national level, which have been a stimulus for the enrichment of mathematics learning. The rationale for naming the award in honor of Paul Erdos was the extraordinary contribution to the learning of mathematics. Dr. Chua’s impressive records of achievements range from his authorship of several mathematics books under Phoenix Publishing House and SIBS Publishing House to his being founder and president of the MTG. Just recently, Dr. Chua invited five internationally known speakers in the MTG/DOST-SEI Mathematics Conference held on October 20-22, 2005, Bayview Park Hotel, Manila.
