Sleepless nights, grueling problems and exhaustive hours spent on lectures, examinations assignments, another assignments characterized the 2009 Youth Mathematicians' In-House Intensive Training Program for HS which lasted for three days from March 29 to April 1, 2009 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City.
The hour after hour sessions and series of mind-boggling problems had almost knocked down neophytes but their unflagging spirits and untrampled hopes sustained them to move on to the end of the challenge. However, the senior trainees were not exceptions. They too, felt the blows and whips of the math problems which consumed much of their neurons. Of course, some few seasoned trainees who have all the aces, though they felt some twinges, strode out of the challenge with some smiles.
And so, whatever the impact of the training to more than 700 mathchievers, the 2009 YMIITP had drawn the best from them, making every trainee realize that mathematics is one subject worth learning, mastering. From among the best trainees, some stood taller, feel prouder and shine brighter indeed! They were the ones whose performance outsmarted the other equally math-gifted kids. Thus, they ended up top scorers and alternates.
The top scorers and alternates are eligible to move on to the third and final stage of the training program of which is compulsory to all of them before they be allowed to embark on any international mathematics competitions slated this year. The last phase of the training program is dubbed as the 2009 Mathematical Olympiad Summer Training Program (MOSTP)for HS Level, a month-long activity which will start on April 15 and end on May 15, 2009.
This year the 2009 MOSTP will be held in two places: DEECO Technological Institute, Sta. Maria Compound, Marcos Highway, Santolan, Pasig. For more information, please contact Mrs. Rechilda Villame at Tel No. 682-4578 or at her mobile number 0917-8105009.
However, a special training with equal quality and coverage is to be conducted for the special group of trainees which will be held at the Arellano University, 2600 Legarda St., Manila. Only 20 trainees will be accommodated on a First Come, First Serve basis.
