PHIL TEAMS MAKE A CLEAN SWEEP IN IMC-SINGAPORE

Aug 26, 2009

Dedication to practice has been paid off as the Philippine teams made a clean sweep in the 5th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Global Indian International School (Baliester Campus)- Singapore last August 20-24, 2009. The Philippines through the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild, Philippines sent the biggest participants in all the math contests it joined this year. A total of 104 Filipino mathletes from both the primary and secondary levels braved the challenge and competed with the participants coming from 7 countries such as India,  Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan and the Philippines.

True to their pledge to bring home the expected awards, the Pinoy math wizards never wasted any moment in putting their best foot forward. Thus, their mathematical prowess was working on top speed as they dealt with every mind-boggling math problems which in the end made them to garner a bagful of gold, silver and bronze medals. The Filipino participants who went to Singapore as one big team succeeded as a team and collected the honor and recognition as a team as well. More often than never, the Philippine teams have showed their individual commitment to group effort which in all aspects contribute to making a good gain in this year’s IMC-Singapore. In the overall ranking, the Philippines was slated as 2nd Place, next to China.

Dr. Simon L. Chua, MTG President, who led the Philippine delegates, was satisfied and delighted with the result. He said that everyone was obviously moving forward together, which is why success took care of itself. Dr. Chua also expressed, “Our math wizards built for their teams a feeling of oneness and of strength. Their victory reflects of how well they all work together”.

And so, the happiest faces in the crowd of achievers were the Filipino kids who ended up winning gold medals. The gold reapers are:
