PINOY MATH WIZARDS PLACE RP 2ND IN 2010 IMC-SINGAPORE
The math prowess of our Filipino math wizards was not just a show of force but also a strong message of clear mathematical excellence which made them heave a total of 12 gold, 26 silver and 54 bronze medals plus 44 merit awards during the 6th International Mathematics Competition in Singapore held on August 6-10, 2010.
The number of medals and awards which our young Filipino mathletes garnered this year had placed the Philippines 2nd in the overall standing, next to China. The said math contest which was participated in by 987 students from 10 countries and territories including Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and India had given our math whiz kids another opportunity to prove their worth as the country's top math warriors.
Dr. Simon Chua, MTG president, said, "our kids have shown again the essential ingredients of winning the contest and that is the definiteness of purpose and the knowledge of what one wants." This year's Pinoy math victors had brought home a total of 136 awards compared to 102 awards last year and only 81 in 2008.
