The moment of truth has arrived placing not one nor two but five Filipino math wizards in the limelight as each of them nabbed a perfect score in the 2013 Australian Mathematics Competition conducted last August 1, 2013.
Dr. Mike Clapper, executive director of the Australian Mathematics Trust disclosed the names of the five Filipino mathletes who breezed through the 2013 AMC as recipients of the Peter O’Halloran Award for achieving perfect scores, a feat not easily attained even by the recognized math aces.
More than 1 million graders and high schoolers from 40 countries took the AMC and these five left their peers cringing. This year’s top scorers are Matthew Angelo Isidro and Adrian Reginald Sy of St. Jude Catholic School, Shaquille Que of Grace Christian College, Cylde Wesley Ang of Chiang Kai Shek College and Kyle Patrick Dulay of Philippine Science High School.
It should be noted that last year AMC produced only two perfect scorers, one from the Philippines, Farrell Eldrian Wu of of MGC New Life Christian Academy and the other was from Singapore, Teo Zhi Yi Bernard.
In a letter to Dr. Simon Chua, Clapper said that the names of these five proven performers will be included in the AMC Solutions and Statistics publication. On the other hand, Dr. Simon Chua delights at how these five MTG kids blew the competition away with flying colors. Dr. Chua said that the whooping five medals these five kids gave to the Philippines are news, big news making everybody feels accomplished.
Moreover, Dr. Chua expects a good number of recipients of high distinction, distinction and credit awards. He further stressed that the complete lists of awardees will be announced as soon as AMT reveals them.
This year’s AMC awarding ceremony will be on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. No less than Dr. Mike Clapper himself will present the Peter O’Halloran Award to the five AMC achievers.
