ADRIAN SY GETS THE FIRST GOLD FOR THE PH

Aug 05, 2014

Finally, Adrian Reginald Sy, 4th year student of St. Jude Catholic School gave the Philippines its first gold in the 11th China Southeast Mathematical Olympiad (CSMO) held in Zhejiang, China on July 25 – 30, 2014.

Sy, one of the best math wizards of his batch never took the contest in stride but used his ultimate number prowess to stay on top of the competition, thus fulfilling the Philippines’ dream for gold, a medal that had been very elusive since 2005. Giving his country the first gold from one of the hardest contests in the planet, Adrian Sy’s achievement was a blockbuster, making his victory the highest possible prize in almost all international contests he had participated in.

This year’s bronze medalist was Harvey Uy of British School Manila. Earning a merit award each had been Gen Mark Tanno of Southville International School and Colleges, Andrew Lawrence Sy of Xavier School, and Raymond Fadri of Makati Science High School.

The Philippines competed in this year's CSMO against 11 other countries and territories: China, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States.
