The Philippine team won second place in the under 15 - 21 years old category and third place under the 18 years old category in the 2015 World Junior Sudoku Championship held in Beijing, China last July 23-26, 2015.
The Philippines bringing 9 Filipino Sudoku puzzlers were among the 200 students who set an official Guinness World Record for the largest multi-Sudoku puzzle, consisting of 200 standard Sudoku grids.
Winning 2nd place for the Philippines in the Under 15 category were Jonathan Conrad Yu of Philippine Christian Gospel School Cebu City, Albriz Moore Bagsic of Philippine Science High School Main Campus and Kirsten Domique Chan of Bayanihan Institute, Tarlac City. In the Under 21 category, our Sudoku grand master winners, Kaye Janelle Yao and Alvin Chan of Ateneo De Manila University, Natalie Beatrice Dy of St. John’s Institute, Bacolod City stood 3rd place.
On the other hand, the Filipino Sudoku wizards Gerrick Spencer Limsiy of Grace Christian College, Bryan Russel Esperanza of Saint Louis University High School Baguio city and Jan Vincent Simbol of BHC Educational Inst., Inc. were declared as 3rd place in the Under 18 team contest.
In the individual contest, Yu finished fourth, Bagsic seventh and Chan eighth in the Under 15 category; Limsiy got fifth, Esperanza eighth and Simbol tenth in the Under 18.
Yao took fourth place, Dy placed seventh and Chan wound up eighth in the Under 21.
This year’s Sudoku contest was participated in by China, Korea, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.
