FILIPINO MATH ACES HAUL MEDALS IN 2017 ITMO NATIONAL PARALLEL CONTEST

Nov 21, 2017

Filipino math wizards won a total of 812 medals in the 2017 International Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad (ITMO) National Parallel Competition held simultaneously in three venues: Rizal High School in Pasig for NCR and Southern Luzon, Angeles City National Trade School in Pampanga for Northern Luzon and Jose Maria College in Davao for Visayas and Mindanao on November 11, 2017.

From more than 2500 participants nationwide, 136 math aces won gold, 271 grabbed silver medals and 405 got bronze medals in the following groups: middle primary, upper primary, junior, intermediate and senior divisions.

The ITMO National Parallel Contest was conceived to provide maximum opportunity to the country’s math-inclined Filipino students to broaden their mathematical horizon and to experience a contest of international standard as they soar the height of excellence.

The competition was national in form since the participants competed among themselves and their performance had no bearing to the results of the ITMO international group. It was international in substance and scope since the contest papers used were the same as those of the ITMO international group and some ITMO rules and regulations had been applied.

The ITMO National Parallel Contest gained the support and recognition of the Department of education through the issuance of the DepEd Advisory 256, s. 2017 on October 12, 2017.

The following are the winners of gold, silver and bronze medals in the following divisions:
