This year’s first big win in the online international math contest is a breath of fresh air for the Philippines at this time of the pandemic as Filipino math wizards bagged 7 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze certificates in the 2020 China Northern Mathematical Olympiad and  2020 China Northern Mathematical Competition.

The MTG Philippines will give cash prizes to the winners of gold, silver and bronze certificates. A cold cash of Php5000 each will be given to the gold winners, Php2500 and Php1250 to the recipients of silver and bronze certificates, respectively. They can claim the cash prizes from Mr. Manuel Kotah, MTG officer.

Our mathletes have showed the stuff they are prepared for in the high-level, large-scale, and IMO-type math contest for senior high school students, the 2020 China Northern Mathematical Competition. Winning gold certificates are Immanuel Josiah A. Balete, Grade 11, St. Stephen's High School; Vincent U. Dela Cruz, Grade 11, Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science; Bryce Ainsley A. Sanchez, Grade 11, Grace Christian College; and  Charles Justin G. Shi, Grade 12, Philippine Cultural College – Caloocan.

In addition, Andres Rico III M. Gonzales, Grade 12, from De La Salle University Integrated School, Manila earned a silver certificate while Stephen James L. Ty, Grade 11, from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School garnered honorable certificate.

The excellent feat continues as more major awards went to the Philippine team, this time, in the 2020 China Northern Mathematical Competition for junior high school students. Bringing home gold certificates are Deanne Gabrielle D. Algenio, Grade 10, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School; Sarji Elijah S. Bona, Grade 10, Palawan Hope Christian School, in coming grade 11 of De La Salle Integrated School – Manila; and Raphael Dylan T. Dalida, Grade 9, Philippine Science High School - Main Campus.

The following recipients of silver certificates are Justin Teng Soon T. Khoo, Grade 10, Regional Science High School III; Lance Heinrich S. Lim, Grade 10, De La Salle Integrated School-Manila and Cassidy Kyler L. Tan, Grade 9, Davao Christian High School.

Walking away with bronze certificates are Lance Chrysler V. De Jesus, Grade 9, Caloocan National Science and Technology High School; Sean Matthew G. Tan, Grade 9, Jubilee Christian Academy; and Kristen Steffi S. Teh, Grade 9,  Grace Christian College. Enzo Rafael S. Chan, Grade 9 student from Bayanihan Institute takes home an honorable certificate.

Both of the 2020 China Northern Mathematical Olympiad and  2020 China Northern Mathematical Competition were participated in by 472 participants from 118 teams coming from 7 provinces and 3 big China cities: Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjian and from the only foreign country, the Philippines!

The team are lead by Mr. Renard Eric Chua and Hazel Shi.

Congratulations!!!
