A declaration from World Health Organization raising the flu alert of A(H1N1) to phase 6 or pandemic level, the organizers of the Po Leung Kuk Primary Math World Contest have decided to cancel the competition scheduled on July 11-15, 2009 in Hong Kong. This development came after when Hong Kong authorities Thursday ordered all primary schools in the city to be closed for two weeks after the first cluster of local swine flu cases was found in the Chinese territory.
The contest organizers remain uncertain and undecided with regard to the rescheduling of the contest date. Since the A (H1N1) influenza continues to spread and infect tens of thousands of people in 74 countries, then the Po Leung Kuk Primary Math World Contest will be held in abeyance.
