As the Philippines rises from the rubble of the calamitous typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, few Filipino kids give bright shine of hope and victory as they successfully grab honor and recognition from the 2009 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) conducted on August 6, 2009. Yielding 14 Prize Awards and 43 High Distinction Certificates, these top Pinoy math wizards have proven once again that Filipinos’ dynamic and resilient spirits can make the Philippines stand proud amidst any challenges.
The 2009 AMC winners have just believe in the things they do in the moment and try to get from the moment enough of a sense of achievement. Their accomplishment in the 2009 AMC which tested everything from their basic numeracy skills through advanced problem solving abilities, these AMC winners have not only reach the mountain top but also reach the clouds as they ended up winning the top AMC awards.
The winners of this contest will be awarded by no less than Dr. Peter Taylor, Executive Director of the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT), at 9 o’clock on October 19, 2009 at Luzon Ballroom, SOLFITEL Hotel, Philippine Plaza, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
If circumstance will only allow, then distinguished personalities such as the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Mr. Rod Smith; DepEd Secretary, Hon. Jesli Lapus; DOST Secretary, Hon. Estrella Alabastro and Hon Alan Peter Cayetano will not only grace the event but also give inspiring messages.
From the thousands of young “mathletes” around the world who participated in the 2008 AMC, 14 Pinoy students stood comfortably with the few fellows from other countries as they grabbed the Prize Awards. The successful Filipino math warriors are:

The 2009 AMC results are another consistent manifestation of the MTG’s purposeful commitment to provide the Filipino youths with mathematical competence in its constant attempt to defy the limits of mathematics. Dr. Simon Chua, MTG President, enthusiastically extends his profound congratulations to the 2008 AMC winners by saying, “these kids are testimonies of the country’s success in the field of mathematics and rich profile of the MTG’s achievement”.
