FILIPINO KIDS SHINE IN INDIA

A total of 18 Fiipino Kids trained by the Mathematics Trainer's Guild, Philippines won awards in the 1st International Young Mathematicians Competition (IYMC 2004) held in Lucknow, India on December 5-9, 2004.

The Philippine Teams win 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 5 bronzes and 6 Certificate of Merits for the individual event. For the team event, one of the Philippine teams got a perfect score out of the 70 teams from ten countries that competed. There were 5 teams who got perfect scores; however, the organizer decided to draw lots for the top 3 winners of the said contest which the Philippine protested such decision. The Chairman of Board of Jurors Mr. Wen-Hsein Sun from Taiwan, and other participating countries also made the same complaint regarding their process in choosing the top winners in the team event contest.

For the relay event, the Philippine won the gold medal and the bronze medal beating the other 68 teams. The participating countries were India, Taiwan, Nepal, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Thailand, South Africa, Peoples' Republic of China, and Philippines.

Aside from the contest, the kids also attended a workshop on problem solving, participated in the math fair and visited historical places in the city.

The Mathematics Trainer’s Guild, Philippines under the leadership of Dr. Simon Chua trained these kids who came from different public and private hig school in the Philippines. The list of winners for the Philippine Teams were the following:
