Four bronze medals are once more added to the long list of MTG Kids’ awards. The medals were earned from IMSO 2005 (International Mathematics and Science Olympiad) held in Jakarta, Indonesia last November 13-18, 2005.
The awardees were:
Immanuel Encarnacion (Colegio San Agustin, Binan),
Audrey Celine Lao (St. Jude Catholic School),
Kenneth Co and Brendon Go (Xavier School).
The Olympiad has three parts, namely: Short Answer Problems, Essay Problems and Exploration. Scores in the three rounds were added to determine the individual winners. The Filipino kids did not only perform well in the contest proper. Wearing barong tagalog and using salakot and castanets, they wowed and cheered the audience during the cultural presentations with their performance of a folk dance called “Immuman followed by a contemporary dance to the tune of “Pinoy Ako”. Leading the MTG team was Ms. Lourdes Ballon, from the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute together with MTG VP Rechilda Villame. Participation to IMSO was made possible through the able leadership of MTG President, Dr. Simon Chua and facilitated by the MTG Executive Director, Mr. Roberto Degolacion. Prior to departure to Indonesia, the kids went through intensive training under MTG trainers Frederick Buiza, Raymond Salvador, Andrew Jonathan Co, and most especially to Carlo Nerecena.
