Speedy calculations and love for numbers helped the Filipino participants to show their excellent stuff, making the Philippines stand second to none in the2013 Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) held in November 2013.
Prof. Ian VanderBurgh, director of The Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing disclosed that the MTG Philippines ranked first in the CSMC and CIMC results besting 45 other participating schools from cities in Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, and USA.
Having and using a large math skill which showed their intelligence to good advantage, two Filipino math aces finished the CIMC with perfect scores, leaving the 5867 participants to trail behind their feat. The perfect scorers, receiving a medal each, were Shaquille Wyan Que of Grace Christian College and Clyde Wesley Ang of Chiang Kai Shek College.
Receiving high commendation for obtaining marks above the cutoff score and for leading the 6932 participants in the CSMC were the following medalists,Kelsey Lim Tiong Soon of Grace Christian College and Harvey Uy of Eaton British International School.
The following Filipino math wizards ranking in the top 25% of all participants in each contest will receive certificates of distinction.

The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests are two contests designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem solving ability.
Most of the CIMC problems are based on the mathematical curriculum up to and including Grade 10. Most of the CSMC problems are based on the mathematical curriculum up to and including the final year of secondary school.
These achievers will be awarded during the 8th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge which will be held at Skydome, SM North EDSA, Quezon City, 2PM, Saturday on February 1, 2014.
