PINOY MATH CRUNCHERS WIN 49 MEDALS IN MATHEMATICS WITHOUT BORDERS COMPETITION
The Filipino math wizards, undaunted by tough task facing them, unleashed their number powers, this time proudly collecting a total of 49 medals in their participation in the Mathematics without Borders Cup- Winter 2014 held on February 19, 2014.
Our math crunchers from selected participating schools: Chiang Kai Shek College, Grace Christian College, Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Philippine Cultural College, St. Jude Catholic School and Zamboanga Chong Hua High School harvested 21 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze medals.
The 144 Filipino students from groups II -VIII (from 8 to 14-year old students) who participated in the contest competed with more than 4000 students from Armenia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
The participants did not compete with each other based on the grade level but they had competed based on group with age as the determining factor.
The competition which was held in the school of the contestants had a total of 20 problems, of which 15 were in multiple-choice and 5 open-ended questions.
