FILIPINO MATHLETES STRIKE 7 GOLD IN 3RD IMAS
It’s another victory for the Philippines as math-gifted students, who engaged in the battle of wits scooped up 7 gold, 20 silver and 36 bronze medals in the second round of the 3rd International Mathematics Assessments for Schools (IMAS) held last February 22, 2014.
The 63 medalists of the 3rd IMAS were the last few math stars out of the more than 1500 participants who sat in the first round and about 192 who qualified in the second round.
This latest feat of the Filipino math superstars will be given recognition in the awarding ceremony scheduled at 10 in the morning on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Jude Catholic School. No less that Prof. Wen-Hsien Sun, member of the IMAS executive council and president of the Chiu Chang Mathematics Foundation in Taiwan will be in the Philippines to personally congratulate and confer medals to the awardees.
Prof. Sun will be giving lectures to medalists and to all interested 3rd IMAS participants. The following is his schedule of lecture sessions:
8:00am – 10:00am
Session 1: Lecture for the elementary students
Topic: Extraordinary Geometry- Common Side Theorem
2:00pm – 4:00pm
Session 2: Lecture for the high school students
Topic: Strategies on Solving International Mathematics Competition Problems
Interested schools that want their 3rd IMAS participants to attend the two-hour lecture are requested to make a confirmation through Mr.Roberto Degolacion, MTG executive office director at his email address, rjd182001@yahoo.com on or before 4pm, Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Please indicate in the confirmation the number of participants and the division (middle primary, upper primary, secondary).
