PH TEAM HAULS 27 AWARDS IN IMSO

Team Philippines harvested a total of 27 awards in the 11th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) for Primary School Students held in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia on October 5 – 11, 2014.
 
In mathematics, Steven Reyes, 11 years old of St. Jude Catholic, was at the top of the contest for winning the only gold medal for the country. His victory, giving the entire team a feel of the seventh heaven, was an obvious show of his math might.
 
Stepping out into the light of distinction for bringing home five silver medals were Patricia Faith Capito of UP Integrated School, Naomi Anne King of St. Jude Catholic School, Immanuel Josiah Balete of St. Stephen’s High School, Dominic Lawrence Bermudez of Notre Dame of Greater Manila and Vanessa Ryanne Julio of St. Jude Catholic School.
 
The following young Filipino mathletes won bronze medals Al Patrick Castro of Pasig Catholic College, Shawn Darren Chua of MGC New Life Christian Academy, Trisha Danielle Sia of Chiang Kai Shek College, Robert Frederick Uy of St. John’s Institute, Jan Cedrick Quintin of Mother Goose Special Science School, Angelo Vince Perez of De La Salle-Lipa, Justin Teng Soon Khoo of Learning Circle Academy and Allyana Coleen Reyes of Falcon School.
 
Furthermore, the Philippine team through Jessica Loraine Gan of St. Jude Catholic School stood out best in experiment, a distinctive award confirming her excellence in Science. She too won a silver medal.
 
Turning up trumps as silver medalists in the science contest were Albriz Moore Bagsic of Lilyrose School, Hugh Angelo Sonon of SPED Olongapo, Ralde Anuel Bautista of MGC New Life Christian Academy, Lyle Wynzel Tamayo of Mother Goose Special School System, Laila Denise Dy of St. Jude Catholic School and Frederick Ivan Michael Tan of Xavier School
These young Filipino science contestants won bronze medals: Maria Monica Manlises of St. Stephen’s High School, Marco Erano Dumale of De La Salle University Science and Technology Complex, Justin Tan of St. John’s Institute, Sophia Marion Medina of Colegio San Agustin-Binan and Ryan Christopher Deodores of Colegio San Agustin-Biñan.
 
The following Filipino contestants, Jedd Sebastian Abrigo, Martin Rey Belino, Celine Amanda Montales, Angela Marie Rillera, Terence Patrick Cabana and Rikka Grace Sombiro were among those who competed at IMSO. 
 
This year’s IMSO drew a total of 226 contestants from Brunei, China, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and host Indonesia.
