Andres Rico Gonzales III, grade 11 from the De la Salle University Integrated School has won a gold medal in the 2018 Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) conducted in the Philippines on November 8, 2018.
Gonzales tops all other non-Canadian participants who wrote the exam outside Canada in the international category. He stands the finest among Moses Mayer(silver award) from Indonesia, Jingyue Zhang (bronze award) from China and Adithya Balachandran (Honorable Mentionl) from the United States of America.
The COMC is the initial qualifier for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO), which will take place on March 27, 2019.
A week ago, Gonzales played a huge role making his school the champion of the 1st MTG-DEPED-SHARP- National Mathematics Olympiad for Senior High School Students held at Grace Christian College.
Showing his flair for mathematics more eloquently than his few peers, he whizzed through several math contests when he obtained a perfect score in the 2018 Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest, 2018 Hypatia Contest, 2015 Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest and 2015 Australian Mathematics Competition.
