Mathematics Trainers' Guild, Philippines and Collins International Trading Corporation, sole distributor of Sharp Calculators in the Philippines have disclosed that a good number of math teachers vouch to attend the 2nd SHARP-MTG Symposium with the theme, "Upgrading Competence to Teaching Statistics and Trigonometry through the Calculator" on June 6, 2009 from 10:00am to 5:00pm at Manila Grand Opera Hotel, Doroteo Jose Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The dynamic duo showing a parallel commitment to improve mathematics education in the Philippines have been tireless in their effort to make possible certain goals especially at enhancing teachers' competence to teaching Statistics and Trigonometry, thru the use of the calculator. It is in this symposium that math teachers will realize that calculators can change the way they teach for calculators help students at all levels learn mathematically complicated material. Many math educators believe that even young children can use calculators to focus on the ideas behind computation rather than on the act of calculating. Rather than hampering mathematical ability, calculators use can actually improve student achievement in mathematics, according to research. Of course, know and learn more of the advantages of calculators in mathematics classes with Mr. Arvi Ubarro, Dr. Archie Rodriguez and Dr. Simon L. Chua, president and founder of MTG, Philippines.
Other than the long list of names of teachers who will be attending the symposium, MTG and SHARP are still inviting interested schools to send a maximum of 2 high school math teachers/coordinators to attend this much awaited event. As usual, the symposium requires NO registration fee at all, it is FREE OF CHARGE. There will be lots of tempting prizes from Sharp Calculators and other sponsors for the participants during games and raffle. Special gifts will be given away for the first fifty people who will come on the event proper. Certificate of attendance will also be distributed to each of the participants.
Since many teachers still want to participate in this symposium, then the organizers have raised the target from 300 to 400 participants. Of course, only few seat are left available now. Thus, interested schools are encouraged to register the names of their participants as early as possible. However, any school wishing to send additional representatives, the organizer will be charging a minimum registration fee of P600.00 per person, this includes lunch buffet and pm snack (first come first serve basis also). On site Registration is discouraged.
