Apr 22, 2008

It is extended to April 30, 2008! Math teachers will have more time to register for the math educators convention in Bohol.

It will be a fruitful summer for many math educators from across the country who will take the rare chance to attend the 2008 National Convention for Mathematics Teachers to be held at Holy Name University, Lesage and Gallares Streets, Tagbilaran City, Bohol on May 16-18, 2008.

The convention which centers on Improving Access to International Mathematics Competitions has been designed to provide mathematics teachers clear perspectives of the various challenges posed by the international mathematics competitions to mathematics curriculum, training programs, teaching competence and students’ math skill development.

Hand in hand with Phoenix Publishing House, Inc, the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines has invited 2 renowned international mathematicians whose reputations in the field of mathematics are exemplary especially their involvements with the International Mathematics Olympiads (IMO). The much respected Indonesian mathematician, Ir. Ridwan Hasan Saputra, President and Director of Klinik Pendidikan MIPA- a mathematical society, will be teaching essential strategies on motivating students’ mathematical abilities in the classroom. The seasoned Chinese math trainer and coach for China national team in the IMO, Prof. Li Shenghong of Zhejiang City will display his mathematical craft and expertise by taking up important inputs and insights about the international math competitions.

Other than the international speakers, some distinguished Filipino mathematicians headed by the only Filipino recipient of the prestigious Paul Erdos Award, the MTG President, Dr. Simon Chua will also come in to handle key mathematical concerns or topics which matter most in any training programs and international math contests. Another Filipino speaker is Mr. Glen Ong an honorable mention in the 1994 IMO. He worked for 13 years at the Oracle Corporation in Redwood, California, USA and still with the Oracle Corporation based in Manila, coordinating with the India operations.
