Dr. Gangsong Leng, a math professor of both well-known universities in China, the Shanghai University and Hunan Normal University is now in Zamboanga City facilitating the one-month MTG Mathematical Olympiad Summer Training Program (MOSTP) for the gifted MTG kids in the Philippines. Last year, he trained 21 MTG high school students and indeed it was a successful and fruitful year for the MTG trainees because the fruit of their hard labors and sacrifices during their rigid trainings with the trainer from China harvested medals and honors for the country in different interrnational math contests. In fact, one of the trainees commented, "Dr. Leng has been able to explain the solutions to the problems better than any doctoral degree holder who speaks English well. He wrote down everything to compensate for his “silence” while other math trainors usually skip important steps when explaining the solution”.
The MOSTP 2005 started on April 13, 2005 and will end on May 14, 2005 with 23 MTG high school students representing different schools across the country. The purpose of the training aims to prepare the participants and hones more their mathematical skills to represent the Philippines in various international math competitions. The Philippines, as its record speaks, has reaped several covetous international recognitions, awards and citations for the best shots its contestants gave in contests held in Shenzhen-China, Jakarta-Indonesia, Macau-China, Hongkong and India.
Dr. Simon Chua, MTG president, who is well known for his dedication and generous heart arranged the travel of Dr. Leng to Zamboaga City because he believed Dr. Leng can equip the participants with new and latest theories, techniques, and strategies on how to solve International Mathematics Olympiad problems and this will be a great advancement for the Philippines to shine better in the competition arena.
Likewise, the warmed hospitality of Mr. Noel Navarro, Ms. Josephine Tan, Mr. Anthony Ang and Mr. Roberto Degolacion make the Zamboanga's trainees feel Zamboanga Chong Hua High School as their second home and a safe place to live.
